Asking for help is the first step

Anxiety therapy in Reno, Nevada
Therapy for driven adults and perfectionists

What to expect

Beginning therapy can feel like a big step—especially for adults who are used to managing things on their own. Many people come to therapy not because they are falling apart, but because the strategies they’ve relied on for years no longer feel sustainable.

This page is meant to help you understand what therapy with me looks like and what you can expect as we begin working together.

A trauma-informed, holistic approach

My approach to therapy is trauma-informed and holistic, meaning we pay attention to both emotional experiences and the body’s responses to stress. Early stress or relational experiences can shape how the nervous system responds long into adulthood, often showing up as anxiety, perfectionism, or difficulty slowing down.

Therapy emphasizes safety, curiosity, and regulation. We work with both insight and mind-body awareness to support lasting change, rather than focusing only on symptom management.

A space that feels supportive

At Mindspace Psychotherapy LLC, you can expect a space that is respectful, non-judgmental, and compassionate. Therapy is not about fixing you—it’s about understanding what you’ve carried, what has shaped you, and how to move forward with greater ease and intention.

Key symptoms of anxiety and perfectionism

persistent overthinking or mental loops

feeling pressure to perform or “get it right”

difficulty relaxing or slowing down

fear of making mistakes or disappointing others

burnout despite functioning well

self-worth tied to productivity or achievement

feeling “on” or alert much of the time

These patterns often began as adaptive responses to earlier stress or trauma—not personal failures.

Initial assessment

The initial session is focused on orientation and understanding what brings you to therapy. We’ll talk about your background, current concerns, and what you’re hoping to gain from therapy. This helps establish a shared understanding of your needs and provides a starting point for our work together.

During this session, we’ll also review confidentiality, logistics, and what to expect moving forward, so you feel informed and grounded in the process. Together, we’ll begin outlining initial therapy goals and a flexible treatment plan that reflects your priorities and pace. Goals may shift over time, and we’ll revisit them as therapy progresses.

Ongoing sessions

Ongoing sessions build on the foundation established during the initial assessment. Therapy is collaborative, thoughtfully paced, and tailored to your evolving needs. Sessions focus on exploring patterns related to anxiety, overthinking, self-pressure, and emotional regulation, as well as how these patterns developed over time.

Rather than searching for quick fixes, our work emphasizes curiosity, compassion, and nervous-system awareness. Therapy supports greater insight, emotional flexibility, and more sustainable ways of coping—without asking you to give up the strengths that have helped you function and succeed.

Sessions draw from evidence-based and holistic approaches to support emotional insight, nervous-system regulation, and meaningful change.
